A sustainable sub-base material made from crushed concrete and construction waste, processed to meet strict grading specifications. Ideal for roads, pavements, driveways and general construction projects requiring robust foundations with excellent load-bearing properties.

Clean, processed sand that has been thoroughly washed to remove impurities, clay and silt particles. Particularly suitable for concrete production, mortar mixes, filtration systems and children’s play areas where high levels of cleanliness are essential.

Environmentally friendly aggregate produced from crushed concrete and masonry, with particles up to 20mm in size. Perfect for drainage applications, pipe bedding, sub-base layers and non-structural concrete, offering a cost-effective alternative to primary aggregates.

Coarse recycled aggregate with particles up to 40mm, created from processed construction and demolition waste. Excellent for use in larger drainage projects, substantial fill applications and areas requiring improved stability without the environmental impact of virgin materials.

Concrete For Driveways FAQs

For a residential driveway that will only carry cars and light vehicles, a concrete thickness of 100mm (4 inches) should be enough when properly reinforced with mesh and laid on a well-compacted sub-base. For driveways that will carry heavier vehicles or be used more often, a thickness of 150mm (6 inches) is recommended. The concrete should be laid on a 100mm sub-base of MOT Type 1 or similar material to give it enough support and drainage.

For a residential driveway, C25/30 or C28/35 strength concrete is generally recommended, with a minimum compressive strength of 25-28 N/mm². This strength gives the driveway enough durability to withstand vehicle weights, freeze-thaw cycles, and general wear.

Concrete driveways are typically strong enough for foot traffic after 24-48 hours, but shouldn’t bear vehicle weight for at least 7 days. The complete curing process takes about 28 days for the concrete to reach full design strength.

A volumetric concrete mixer typically needs about 3-4 metres of width and 10-12 metres of length for safe operation and manoeuvring on-site. The vehicle needs enough overhead clearance (about 4 metres) to avoid things like trees or power lines. For tight spaces, please discuss with our team beforehand, as our experienced drivers can often work with more limited spaces when necessary.

A concrete driveway in the UK typically costs from £65-£85 per square metre for standard finishes, depending on complexity, site access and preparation needs. For an average single-car driveway (about 25 square metres), expect to pay £1,625-£2,125, including excavation, preparing of the sub-base and basic finishing. Extra features like decorative finishes, edging or drainage will increase this cost.

Recycled crushed concrete (RCC) can be used as a sub-base material for driveways, acting as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option. However, it isn’t suitable as the final surface layer and should be covered with concrete or block paving for a durable finish. RCC should be properly graded and compacted to at least 100mm thick to give the driveway support and drainage before the final surface is applied.
