An aggregate for every need

Whatever your need, we can provide you with aggregates that add the perfect finishing touches to your project.

Recycled Concrete agregate

Recycled Type 1

A sustainable sub-base material made from crushed concrete and construction waste, processed to meet strict grading specifications. Ideal for roads, pavements, driveways and general construction projects requiring robust foundations with excellent load-bearing properties.

Recycled 20mm concrete agregate

Recycled 20mm

Environmentally friendly aggregate produced from crushed concrete and masonry, with particles up to 20mm in size. Perfect for drainage applications, pipe bedding, sub-base layers and non-structural concrete, offering a cost-effective alternative to primary aggregates.
Wash Sand concrete aggregate

Wash Sand

Clean, processed sand that has been thoroughly washed to remove impurities, clay and silt particles. Particularly suitable for concrete production, mortar mixes, filtration systems and children’s play areas where high levels
of cleanliness are essential.
Concrete aggregate

Recycled 40mm

Coarse recycled aggregate with particles up to 40mm, created from processed construction and demolition waste. Excellent for use in larger drainage projects, substantial fill applications and areas requiring improved stability without the environmental impact of virgin materials.

Concrete Aggregate FAQs

For general-purpose concrete, 20mm crushed gravel or limestone aggregate provides an excellent balance of strength and workability. Angular aggregates create stronger interlocking bonds within the concrete matrix, resulting in higher compressive strength than rounded aggregates. For exposed finishes or decorative work, smaller 10mm aggregates or speciality options like granite or coloured aggregates may be preferred, whilst for foundations and structural applications, larger 40mm aggregates can offer cost savings whilst maintaining necessary strength.

Yes, aggregates are an essential part of concrete, making up 60-80% of its volume and giving it structural strength, stability, and bulk. Without aggregates, concrete would just be cement paste, which would be incredibly expensive, prone to shrinkage and cracking, and have little in the way of compressive strength. Coarse and fine aggregates bound together with cement paste create a strong, durable composite – the versatile building material we know as concrete.

For a standard C20/25 concrete mix, you’ll need about 800-850kg (about 0.45-0.5 cubic metres) of aggregates per cubic metre of concrete. This usually needs around 400kg of coarse aggregate (gravel) and 400kg of fine aggregate (sand). Exact amounts may vary a little depending on the specific mix design, strength needed, and the size and type of aggregates used.

Aggregates make up the bulk of concrete’s volume (typically 60-80%), giving it structural strength and stability while reducing the amount of cement needed. They create a rigid skeletal structure within the concrete that resists compressive forces and minimises shrinkage during curing. Additionally, the right aggregates will have a big impact on concrete’s workability, durability, and finished appearance, with different sizes and types used to achieve specific performance characteristics for various applications.

Yes, crushed concrete can be used as a recycled aggregate in new concrete mixes, such as for non-structural roles like footpaths, driveways, and as sub-base material. It typically comprises about 70-80% of natural aggregates with the rest being hardened cement paste and other materials from the original concrete. Using recycled concrete aggregate is more sustainable, as it reduces landfill waste and preserves natural resources, though it may produce concrete that is slightly weaker than mixes using virgin aggregates.

For a standard 1:2:3 concrete mix (cement:sand), you’ll need around 425kg of sand and 700kg of coarse aggregate per cubic metre of concrete. This is roughly 0.25 cubic metres of sand and 0.40 cubic metres of coarse aggregate. The exact amounts may vary slightly depending on the strength and workability needed, and the specific characteristics of the materials being used.
