How does a volumetric concrete mixer work?

A volumetric concrete mixer carries the raw materials (cement, aggregates, and water) and combines them on-site at the exact moment they’re needed. This allows for precise quantities to be produced without wastage, as the concrete is mixed immediately before use.

What is volumetric concrete?

Volumetric concrete is freshly mixed concrete that’s produced on-site with a mobile volumetric mixer, rather than being pre-mixed at a batching plant. The concrete ingredients are stored separately on the mixer vehicle and combined in precise volumes at the point of delivery. Doing this ensures the concrete is always fresh and allows for exact quantities to be produced with minimal wastage.

How much does a volumetric concrete mixer hold?

A typical volumetric concrete mixer can carry enough raw materials to make 4-10 cubic metres of concrete per load, depending on the vehicle size. The separate compartments hold cement powder, different sizes of aggregates, water, and additives that are combined on-site.

How much space do I need for a volumetric concrete delivery?

A volumetric concrete mixer typically requires around 3-4 metres of width and 10-12 metres of length to operate and manoeuvre safely. The vehicle will also need at least 4m of overhead clearance to avoid any low-hanging branches or cables.

Is volumetric concrete cheaper?
